Why convert WebP to PNG?
WebP is a compact format optimised for delivering images over the web, and browsers handle it effortlessly. Design tools, older editors and many corporate systems are a different story. When you download a logo or product image and it arrives as .webp, converting it to PNG gives you a file that opens everywhere and, unlike JPG, keeps any transparent background. That makes PNG the natural choice for graphics, cut-outs, icons, diagrams and screenshots.

Where WebP files come from
You rarely create a WebP on purpose. They arrive when you save an image from a website, export from a design tool with "optimise for web" enabled, or download an asset pack built for modern browsers. Google's own products, WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace and most content delivery networks now serve WebP automatically to any browser that advertises support, which is every browser released since 2020. The file you save is therefore whatever the server decided to send, not the format the site originally uploaded.
That is fine until you need to do something with it. Drop a WebP into a decade-old copy of Photoshop, an enterprise document system or a print shop's upload form and you will usually be told the file type is unsupported. Converting to PNG sidesteps the problem permanently, and unlike JPG it does so without discarding transparency or softening crisp edges.
How the converter preserves your image
Tinyvert uses the browser's own WebP decoder to reconstruct every pixel, including the alpha channel, then encodes a standard 32-bit RGBA PNG through the Canvas API. There is no quality slider because PNG compression is lossless: the output is a pixel-for-pixel copy of what the browser decoded. Processing takes place entirely on your device, so confidential mock-ups and unreleased artwork stay private. Batches convert one file after another with a live progress bar, and the ZIP download is created locally too.
Working with the converted PNG
Drop it straight into Figma, Canva, PowerPoint, Word or Google Slides.
Edit in Photoshop, GIMP, Affinity or Paint.NET without plug-ins.
Use it as an app icon, watermark or overlay thanks to preserved transparency.
Need it smaller again for the web? Run it through PNG to WebP or the compressor when you are done editing.
For photographs without transparency, WebP to JPG produces much smaller files that are just as compatible.

Frequently asked questions
Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Both formats support an alpha channel, so transparent backgrounds, soft shadows and anti-aliased edges are preserved exactly.
Is the conversion lossless?
PNG encoding is lossless, so the PNG contains exactly the pixels the browser decoded from the WebP. If the WebP itself was lossy, those original compression artefacts remain, but nothing new is lost.
Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?
WebP uses far more efficient compression. A PNG of the same image is commonly 3–10 times larger. Choose WebP to JPG if you need small files and do not need transparency.
Can I convert animated WebP to PNG?
The first frame is converted. PNG does not support animation (APNG is a separate, rarely used variant).
Which programs open PNG?
Essentially all of them: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, every browser, Office, Photoshop, GIMP, Figma, Canva and more.
