Waiting…
Private by design
Your files are processed by your own device using WebAssembly and your browser's built-in codecs. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored.
Fast & offline-ready
No queue, no waiting for a server. Once the page has loaded it even works without a connection.
Works everywhere
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No app to install.
The size win
A GIF stores every frame as a separate 256-colour picture, compressed one frame at a time. An MP4 encoded with H.264 stores a full picture only now and then and describes the rest as changes, with millions of colours available. For the kind of content that lives in GIFs, that routinely means a file a tenth of the size and often much less: a 6 MB reaction GIF becomes a few hundred kilobytes of video with smoother colour. Smaller files load faster everywhere, which is why Giphy, Tenor, X and Imgur all serve video under the hood even when they call it a GIF.
Where MP4 is required
Instagram and TikTok do not accept GIF uploads at all; they want video.
YouTube Shorts, Reels and video ads need a real video file.
PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides play an MP4 more reliably than a large GIF.
Video editors import MP4 as a normal clip; some treat a GIF as a single still.
Websites can lazy-load and stream a <video> element, which a GIF cannot do.
How the conversion works
Tinyvert decodes every frame of the GIF with the browser's own image decoder, so even unusual GIFs with per-frame delays, partial-frame updates and transparency are read correctly. Each frame's timing is kept, so a GIF that pauses on one frame pauses in the video too. Because H.264 needs even dimensions, odd widths or heights are padded by a single pixel. Frames are then encoded with H.264 through the WebCodecs API, with AV1 or VP9 used only in browsers that cannot encode H.264. Leave Quality and Max resolution on their defaults unless a huge GIF needs shrinking further. The MP4 has no audio track, since GIFs carry no sound.
Making it loop
A GIF's loop count is baked into the file. MP4 has no such flag: looping is a decision the player makes. Messaging apps loop short videos automatically, and on a web page you simply add the loop attribute, usually alongside autoplay muted playsinline so the clip starts silently on phones. VLC, QuickTime and PowerPoint all have a loop setting of their own.
Kept on your device
The GIF is read into memory and encoded by code running in your browser; it is never uploaded or stored anywhere, and after the first visit the tool works offline. Convert up to five GIFs in one batch, each with a progress bar, and download them individually or as a ZIP built locally. Encoding needs Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera, Safari 17 or newer, or Firefox 130 or newer, and large files are limited by your device's memory. Need the opposite? Video to GIF cuts a short loop from any clip, GIF to PNG grabs a single still, and Compress Video trims the MP4 down even further.
How to convert gif to mp4 — step by step
1
Drop up to five GIFs into the drop zone or click "Choose files".
2
Leave Quality and Max resolution on their defaults, or lower them to make an oversized GIF smaller still.
3
Conversion starts automatically; each frame is decoded and encoded to H.264 on your device, with a progress bar per file.
4
Download the MP4, grab a ZIP of the whole batch, or share it directly to another app.
Frequently asked questions
Will the MP4 loop like the GIF did?
Looping is a player setting in MP4, not something stored in the file. Chat apps loop short videos automatically, and on a web page you add the loop attribute to the <video> tag. VLC, QuickTime and PowerPoint have loop options of their own.
How much smaller is the MP4?
Commonly around a tenth of the GIF, often less. H.264 stores only what changes between frames and uses millions of colours, while GIF stores each frame as a full 256-colour picture.
Is the frame timing preserved?
Yes. Every frame keeps the delay set in the GIF, including frames that hold for longer than the rest, so the MP4 plays at exactly the same pace.
Why is the video one pixel wider or taller?
H.264 requires an even width and height. GIFs with an odd dimension are padded by a single pixel; everything else is unchanged.
Does the MP4 have audio?
No. GIFs are silent, so the video is written without an audio track. Add music in an editor afterwards if you need it.
Can I do this on an iPhone?
Yes. Safari 17 or newer on iOS can encode the video, and the Share button sends the finished MP4 straight to Messages, Instagram or any other app.
