    Private by design

Your files are processed by your own device using WebAssembly and your browser's built-in codecs. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored.

    Fast & offline-ready

No queue, no waiting for a server. Once the page has loaded it even works without a connection.

    Works everywhere

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No app to install.

    Lossless compression in one paragraph

A WAV file is raw PCM: every sample written out in full, 1,411 kbps for CD-quality stereo, whether the music is a full orchestra or thirty seconds of room tone. FLAC looks at the signal, predicts each sample from the ones before it and stores only the small difference. That difference is much cheaper to write than the sample itself, so the file shrinks, and because nothing is thrown away the decoder reconstructs the original bit for bit. Tinyvert uses the reference libFLAC encoder, compiled to WebAssembly, running entirely in your browser.

How much space you will save

    MaterialTypical FLAC size
Spoken word, audiobooks, interviews30–45% of the WAV
    Classical, acoustic, jazz45–55%
    Rock, pop, electronic55–70%
White noise, heavy distortion85–100% (little to predict)

The exact figure appears in the row once a file is done. A 50-minute album that occupies 500 MB as WAV usually lands around 280 MB as FLAC.

    Who converts WAV to FLAC

    • Anyone who digitised vinyl, cassettes or DAT and wants the archive to fit on a drive.
    • Field recordists and podcasters keeping raw masters they may edit again.
    • Musicians swapping stems and mixes, where a 60% upload saving matters.
    • People who ripped CDs to WAV years ago and now want tags, art and a tidy library.

What FLAC gives you beyond size

WAV has no proper tag system, which is why ripped WAVs show up as "Track 01" in every player. FLAC supports title, artist, album and embedded artwork, so once converted you can tag the files in your music app and they will stay tagged. The format also stores a fingerprint of the decoded audio, so a damaged file is reported rather than played with glitches. Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, VLC, Plex and most network streamers play FLAC natively.

When WAV is still the right choice

Keep WAV for files that live inside a DAW session, for hardware samplers and for any delivery spec that names it. For sharing, streaming and long-term storage, FLAC is the better container for the same audio. If you need something small enough to email, WAV to MP3 trades a little quality for a tenfold saving, and FLAC to MP3 does the same from your new archive. The trade-offs are compared in MP3 vs WAV vs FLAC.

How to convert wav to flac — step by step

    1. Drop WAV or AIFF files into the box, or click "Choose files". Up to five at a time.

    2. There is nothing to configure: FLAC is lossless, so there is no bitrate or quality to choose.

    3. Encoding starts automatically. The libFLAC encoder runs in WebAssembly on your device and each row reports the space saved.

    4. Download the FLAC files individually or together as a ZIP.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is FLAC really lossless?
Yes. FLAC works like ZIP for audio: it finds patterns in the samples and stores them more compactly, and decoding returns exactly the samples that went in. No listening test can tell a FLAC from the WAV it was made from, because the audio is identical.
How much smaller will the file be?
Typically half to two-thirds of the WAV size for music. Quiet, sparse or spoken-word material compresses more; dense, loud, noisy material compresses less.
Can I convert AIFF files as well?
Yes. .aif and .aiff files, the Mac equivalent of WAV, are accepted alongside .wav and .wave.
Are the sample rate and channels preserved?
Yes. A 96 kHz stereo WAV becomes a 96 kHz stereo FLAC; mono stays mono. Nothing is resampled or mixed down.
Can I get the WAV back later?
At any time, with FLAC to WAV. Because FLAC is lossless the round trip costs nothing.
