Lower = smaller file. 80–90% is visually lossless for photos.

    Private by design

Your files are processed by your own device using WebAssembly and your browser's built-in codecs. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored.

    Fast & offline-ready

No queue, no waiting for a server. Once the page has loaded it even works without a connection.

    Works everywhere

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No app to install.

    Why compress images?

Images account for roughly half of the bytes on a typical web page, and the phone in your pocket produces 3–8 MB photos by default. Oversized images make websites slow, hurt Google Core Web Vitals scores, blow through email attachment limits, fill up cloud storage and drain mobile data. Compressing an image reduces its file size by removing information the eye cannot perceive and by encoding what remains more efficiently.

Well-done compression is invisible. A 4 MB photo from an iPhone can usually be brought below 500 KB with no visible change on a screen, and below 200 KB if it is also resized to a sensible display resolution.

    How this image compressor works

Tinyvert re-encodes each image in your browser using the Canvas API and a Web Worker so the page stays responsive. For JPG and WebP output, the quality slider controls how aggressively the encoder quantises detail. For PNG output the encoder is lossless, so savings come from stripping metadata and optionally reducing the dimensions.

Three settings give you full control:

    • Quality — the main lever for JPG and WebP. Lower is smaller.
    • Limit dimensions — downscale anything larger than, say, 1920 px on its longest edge. This is the single most effective way to shrink phone photos destined for the web.
    • Output format — keep the original format, or switch to WebP, which is 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and supported by every modern browser.

If a compressed file would come out larger than the original (it happens with already-optimised images), the compressor hands back your original untouched, so you can never make things worse.

    Compression and privacy

Most "free online compressors" upload your images to their servers and, per their terms, may retain them. Because Tinyvert runs entirely client-side, there is nothing to upload: you could disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it would still work. This makes it safe for confidential documents, ID scans, medical images and unreleased product photos. Need to change dimensions precisely instead? Try the image resizer.

How to compress images online — step by step

    1. Add JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC images by dropping them on the page or choosing files.

    2. Pick a quality level. 70–80% is the sweet spot for the web; 90% for near-original quality.

    3. Optionally limit the longest edge (e.g. 1920 px) or change the output format to WebP for extra savings.

    4. Each file shows how much smaller it became. Download individually or as one ZIP.

    Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my images get?
Typical results: JPG photos shrink 40–80% at 75% quality, PNG screenshots shrink 20–60%, and switching a photo to WebP usually saves another 25–35% on top. Results depend on how heavily the original was compressed already.
    Will compression reduce quality?
The default 75% setting is tuned so that photos look the same to the eye on screens. Move the slider up for print work or down for thumbnails. You can compare before-and-after sizes in the file list before downloading.
Why did a PNG barely shrink?
PNG is lossless, so the quality slider does not apply. To get dramatic savings on a PNG, choose WebP or JPG as the output format, or set a dimension limit — a 4000-px screenshot is rarely needed at full size.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no hard limit because nothing is uploaded. Very large files (50 MB+) are limited only by your device memory; a phone may need a moment longer.
Does the compressor keep EXIF metadata?
No. Camera metadata (including GPS location) is removed, which typically saves a few dozen kilobytes and protects your privacy when publishing images online.
