What is a WebP file and why is it everywhere?
WebP is an image format created by Google to make web pages lighter. Because it produces smaller files than JPG or PNG, most large websites, from online stores to news sites, now serve WebP to browsers automatically. That is great for page speed, but it means that when you right-click and save an image, you often end up with a .webp file that Windows Photo Viewer, older versions of Photoshop, Microsoft Word, many email programs and countless upload forms simply refuse to open.
JPG remains the universal currency of images. Converting WebP to JPG restores compatibility with every device and program made in the last three decades.
Common reasons to convert WebP to JPG
Inserting a downloaded image into a Word, PowerPoint or Google Docs document.
Uploading to a marketplace, job portal or government site that only accepts JPG/PNG.
Opening images in legacy photo editors or viewing them on older phones and smart TVs.
Sending pictures to clients or relatives who cannot open WebP.
Printing at a photo kiosk.
How Tinyvert converts WebP to JPG
Every modern browser can decode WebP natively. Tinyvert reads the file with the browser's decoder, draws the pixels onto a canvas with a white background (JPG cannot store transparency), and re-encodes the result as a baseline JPG at the quality you set. Nothing is uploaded: the file stays in your browser's memory and is discarded when you close the tab. The default 92% quality preserves full detail; you can drop it to 75–80% to make files suitable for email.
Batch conversion is built in. Drop a folder's worth of images, watch the progress bars, and click "Download all as ZIP" for a single archive of JPGs named after the originals.
WebP to JPG vs WebP to PNG
Choose JPG for photographs and anything you will share, upload or print. Choose PNG for logos, icons, screenshots and graphics that need transparency or pixel-exact edges. Both tools work the same way and run entirely in your browser. If you later need to go back to WebP for a website, JPG to WebP has you covered.
Tip: stop Chrome saving WebP
Sites decide which format to send based on your browser's declared support, so there is no reliable setting to force JPG downloads. The fastest workaround is simply to save the WebP and convert it here, which takes a couple of seconds.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't I open WebP files?
WebP is well supported in browsers but less so in older desktop software, some photo editors, Office applications and many email clients. Converting to JPG solves this everywhere.
What happens to transparency when converting WebP to JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG instead.
Will the image lose quality?
JPG is lossy, but at the default 92% setting the re-encode is visually lossless. Lower the slider only if you specifically need smaller files.
Can I convert animated WebP?
Only the first frame is converted, because JPG cannot store animation.
Why is the JPG larger than the WebP?
WebP is a more efficient format, so an equivalent-quality JPG is typically 25–35% bigger. That is expected; the benefit is compatibility.
