Why PNG for PDF pages?
PNG is lossless. Every pixel the renderer draws is stored exactly, so the thin lines of an architectural plan, the one-pixel borders of a UI screenshot, the tiny labels on a circuit diagram and the serifs of a 9-point footnote come out just as they were drawn. JPG, by contrast, is built for photographs and quietly smears sharp edges and flat colours. For anything that is mostly text, lines or solid fills, PNG is the right choice.
Typical jobs
Embedding a chart or table from a report in a slide deck, a wiki page or a blog post.
Turning a design spec, wireframe or floor plan into an image a reviewer can mark up.
Capturing a clean picture of a page for documentation, without a viewer's toolbar in the shot.
Preparing pages of a comic, zine or sheet music for an app that only accepts images.
Making a thumbnail for every page of a document.
Picking a resolution
Because a PDF describes shapes rather than pixels, you choose how large the picture should be. The Resolution menu offers 72, 150 and 300 DPI. At 150 DPI, the default, an A4 page renders at 1240 × 1754 pixels, which fills a laptop screen and reads comfortably on a phone. Choose 300 DPI when the image will be printed or when someone needs to zoom into small text, and 72 DPI for a quick preview. PNG compresses flat areas extremely well, so a text page at 300 DPI is often much smaller than you would expect, while a full-page photograph will be large.
What you get
One PNG per page, named document-page-01.png, document-page-02.png and so on, with "Download all as ZIP" collecting every page in a single archive. The Pages field takes all or a list such as 1-3, 7 when only part of the document matters. Pages are rendered opaque, with the white background they would have on paper; there is no transparency. The result is a picture rather than text, so if you need the words, PDF to Text extracts them, and for photo-heavy scans PDF to JPG gives far smaller files.
Rendered privately, in the browser
Rendering is done by PDF.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF engine, running entirely inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, so internal documents and unreleased designs stay on your machine, and after the first visit the tool works offline too. Up to five PDFs go in one batch, each with its own progress bar. Password-protected files are refused with a message rather than opened. When you later want those PNGs back inside a document, PNG to PDF reassembles them in any order you like.

Frequently asked questions
Is PNG better than JPG for PDF pages?
For text, diagrams, screenshots and line art, yes: PNG is lossless, so edges stay perfectly sharp. For photographs and colour scans, PDF to JPG produces much smaller files that look the same.
Which DPI should I use?
150 DPI (the default) is right for documents viewed on screen. Use 300 DPI for printing or when readers will zoom into fine print, and 72 DPI for a quick thumbnail.
Can I render a single page?
Yes. Type the page number into the Pages field, for example 5, or a range such as 2-4. Leaving it as all renders every page.
Are the PNGs transparent?
No. Pages are rendered as opaque images on a white background, exactly as they would print. There is no alpha channel in the output.
Is the text still selectable in the PNG?
No, a PNG is a picture of the page. If you need the words themselves, PDF to Text extracts them into a .txt file.
Is there a limit on pages?
There is no page limit. Very large documents at 300 DPI are limited by your device's memory, because every rendered page is held in RAM until you download it.
