Choosing a size forces a re-encode.

    Private by design

Your files are processed by your own device using WebAssembly and your browser's built-in codecs. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored.

    Fast & offline-ready

No queue, no waiting for a server. Once the page has loaded it even works without a connection.

    Works everywhere

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No app to install.

    Why Apple devices record MOV

Every video an iPhone or iPad captures, and every screen recording made with QuickTime Player or Shift-Command-5 on a Mac, arrives as .mov. QuickTime is Apple's own container and its devices and apps all read it, so Apple has no reason to change. The trouble starts when the clip leaves that ecosystem. Windows Media Player, many Android phones, PowerPoint, WordPress uploads and a lot of older TVs either refuse .mov or play it badly, while .mp4 is accepted practically everywhere.

    A remux, not a re-encode

The MP4 standard was written on top of the QuickTime file format, so the two containers are close relatives and store the same codecs. Tinyvert lifts the H.264 or HEVC video track and the AAC audio track out of the MOV and writes them into an MP4 wrapper. Nothing is decoded, nothing is compressed again and nothing is lost: the pixels and samples are identical. Because no codec is involved, the conversion runs as fast as your device can read the file, typically a few seconds for a phone clip. The status line on each row confirms the result with "copied".

Rotation metadata survives the remux too, so portrait clips stay portrait. Subtitle tracks and chapter markers are the only things not carried over.

When you want a smaller file instead

A copy keeps the original size, which for 4K footage at 60 fps can be several hundred megabytes a minute. The Max resolution menu (1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p) downscales anything larger, and the Quality setting then controls the re-encode; both apply only when the video is re-encoded, and the row reports "re-encoded" instead of "copied". For a size-first workflow use Compress Video; to keep just the soundtrack, Video to MP3 takes the MOV directly.

    Private, offline and free

The file never leaves your computer or phone. It is read into the browser's memory, rewritten there and offered back as a download, so family videos and client footage stay private. After your first visit the page works offline. You need Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera, Safari 17 or newer, or Firefox 130 or newer. Up to five files convert per batch for free; Tinyvert Pro, a one-off US$9, lifts that limit and removes the ads. For other combinations, the Video Converter moves between MP4, WebM, MOV and MKV.

How to convert mov to mp4 — step by step

    1. Leave Quality and Max resolution at their defaults for a lossless copy, or pick a lower resolution if you would rather have a smaller, re-encoded file.

    2. Drag up to five MOV files into the drop zone or click "Choose files". Each file starts converting at once with its own progress bar.

    3. When a row reads "copied", the MP4 is ready: download it, save every file as one ZIP, or use the Share button on your phone.

    Frequently asked questions

Does converting MOV to MP4 lose quality?
No. MOV and MP4 are near-identical containers, so Tinyvert copies the H.264 or HEVC video and the AAC audio across without decoding them. The picture and sound in the MP4 are bit-for-bit what was in the MOV. The guide MOV to MP4 without losing quality explains why.
Why does my iPhone record MOV rather than MP4?
MOV is the QuickTime container Apple has used since the 1990s, and iOS, iPadOS and macOS write it for everything from the Camera app to screen recordings. The codecs inside (H.264, or HEVC when "High Efficiency" is selected) are exactly the ones MP4 uses, which is what makes a straight copy possible.
Will an HEVC (H.265) video play after converting?
The MP4 still contains HEVC, so it plays wherever HEVC is supported: Apple devices, Windows 10 and 11 with the HEVC extension, recent Android phones and most smart TVs. If a player insists on H.264, choose a Max resolution or a different Quality; that triggers a re-encode, and Tinyvert writes H.264 wherever your browser can encode it.
Does a portrait video stay the right way up?
Yes. iPhones store orientation as a rotation flag instead of rotating the pixels, and that flag is preserved during the remux. Every current player honours it.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, but the input and output both sit in RAM, so large files are limited by your device's memory. A long 4K clip is more likely to succeed on a laptop than on a phone; if it fails, cut it down first with Trim Video.
Can I do this on the iPhone itself?
Yes, in Safari 17 or newer. Open this page, pick the clip from your photo library or Files, and the MP4 is written on the phone. A Share button then sends it straight to Messages, WhatsApp, Mail or Files.
